Jason Smith is a renowned artisan blacksmith based in Decatur, Georgia, near Atlanta. He shares a bit of his story, his process and an inside look at his inspiring studio. His work is a mix of commissioned iron sculpture that has transformed spaces from private collections to public spaces, such as Atlanta's popular BeltLine trails.
His private works for home and commercial use are a varied assortment of functional structures that captivate any space, whether it be a grand staircase, a garden gate or a simple, yet austere structure for a kitchen. He is part craftsman and part artist and a complete master at his work.
Constantly inspired by material and process, Jason finds new ways to drive his art and the form and function of the blacksmith craft forward. He also loves sharing his craft with his community. He regularly holds classes for all ages to introduce and train kids and adults in the ancient art.
