Tradeswork Arts Foundation
There is a tradition of apprenticeship in the trades that we have always tried to make part of our practice at Smithworks. After the success of our recent work study partnership, we have decided to grow our efforts to empower and mentor youth through the arts and trades with our non-profit organization Tradeswork Arts Foundation.
Make a difference.
Tradeswork has a vision to:
-Create mentorship opportunities for high school students to learn skills in metal fabrication and get hands on experience in the work force
-Empower youth to to creatively solve novel problems through the arts and trades
-Provide a space for making and exhibiting creative work for the neighborhood and arts community
Neighborhood spaces are especially important for adolescents who are realizing their potential and beginning to understanding their self worth beyond the context of their families.
These spaces and relationships can give creative opportunities for youth to develop skills, challenge their potential, learn how to work as a member of a team, and give a safe sense of ownership to a community.
