smithworks goes to school

This spring, Smithworks had the great pleasure of working with the Dekalb County School District to bring blacksmithing into the schools as part of our ongoing efforts with our nonprofit Tradeswork Arts Foundation.

We have a mission to empower and mentor youth through the arts and trades, and we are excited that we have been able to expand our outreach efforts into our local schools to share about careers in blacksmithing and metal fabrication.

We think there’s a real benefit to creating with your hands, and apparently we’re not the only ones. Blacksmithing is gaining popularity as a hobby, in part thanks to Forged in Fire. There’s also a resurgence of interest in the trades as the cost of college has become a financial burden for many. We have seen first hand the importance of hands-on learning and how metalworking can help students develop valuable skills such as problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork.

We have a waiting list of students who are interested in exploring metal fabrication beyond the classroom who would love to take a class with us. Please consider supporting our work through our non profit Tradeswork with a donation. No amount is too small.
